Title: Target Practice, 2007
A spent metal shooting target sits in storage at a RAF military base in Northern England. His nickname is "Herman the German" or Figure 11 (fig.11) The light from a window struck the tarnished metal in a way that brought the imaginary soldier to life. I remember thinking that he must be immortal. This image always polarizes its viewers. I remember preparing for this exhibition with the legendary art dealer Olga Koper. I was soliciting her opinion on which images to include in a show. I excluded this photo from the options. At the end of the session I showed her this and she had a powerful reaction. It became her favorite. I put in in the show but now I know Olga has a dark side!
